The stunning Gymnocalycium neuhuberi is native to Argentina where it grows in high altitude grasslands in patches of barren granite. These plants can vary in colour from a deep green to blue-green shade. It’s described as having a round stem with between 10-18 wavy, rounded ribs. In the thickest part of ribs there is a areole. A areole is a specialised structure in cacti and succulents from which spines, hair, flowers, etc grow. From these structures small, fine spines emerge. These spines can vary in colour from white, yellow, orange and brown. As this plant matures it will produce a number of offsets, these can be used for propagating to left to for a stunning cluster. Gymnocalycium neuhuberi is heavily collected for the amazing lilac flowers it produces. These flowers are also reported to be scented which is very unique for a gymnocalycium.
☀️This plant requires bright, indirect light but harsh direct sunlight needs to be avoided as this can scorch the leaves.
💧Overwatering can lead to rot, so it's best to allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings.
〰️These plants don’t have any special requirements when it comes to humidity. Ambient is perfectly fine for these guys.
🌡️Standard room temperatures between 18-24°C are perfect
🍴Use a balanced liquid fertiliser at half strength once a month during the growing season (spring and summer).
✂️A mature plant can be propagated by offsets. Simply remove the offsets, let them callus and then nestle the base into a well draining potting mix. Avoid watering until the plants have put out some roots. Most propagation for this species is done by seed.
🪴Repot every 2-3 years as needed, using a well-draining potting mix formulated for cacti and succulents.
(Each living plant is unique and may vary slightly in size, colour, or shape depending on the season. Flowering plants are sent when available. You will receive a bare rooted plant similar to the ones in the pictures provided.)
